A social group of North and West Vancouver singles was started in 1987, and it now extends all across the British Columbia Lower Mainland. TGIF is headed by its founder Len Macht (TGIF Singles Inc.) with headquarters in North Vancouver.
How do you define "single" - and what about single parents?
Single parents are included in the groups mentioned above and are most welcome.
How many members do you have, and what is the age group?
Can TGIF help me find a partner? TGIF is not a dating service or match making club, although many members have happily connected. TGIF is a social club - an organization of unattached men and women who wish to participate in social activities with people of a similar status - functioning to bring people together and help them to develop lasting friendships and relationships. TGIF provides the spontaneous climate where singles can share their enthusiasm with others - the rest is up to you. We acknowledge that many members are seeking a lasting relationship with a member of the opposite sex, and have marriage (or re-marriage) as a goal. Many have been fortunate to find someone special, and we have about 20 weddings each year attributed to TGIF relationships. We congratulate our alumni and wish them the very best.
I'm recently divorced. What if my ex wants to join after I become a member?
How are members screened and what about privacy? For privacy reasons, we do not have an extensive screening process. The information we ask for (see APPLICATION) is primarily to help us organize the type of events that our members want (see SURVEY). We do not give out any personal information about any member to other members without prior approval and permission from the members involved (see PRIVACY). Any information you give to another member is done at your discretion and should be based upon your own judgement.
What happens with "problem" members?
People are encouraged to come out to our Information Evenings and to "test drive" an event prior to joining, and by doing so, they see both the type of members TGIF has and the type of events that they attend. Those who consider heavy drinking, illegal drug use, or raucous and destructive behavior to be either part of their social activities or a good time, soon realize they wouldn't fit in. As well, many members join as a result of referrals from existing members. Consequently, such problems are very rare. In over two decades of activity, only five people were asked to leave the club.
Do I need an invitation to come to TGIF events? No. As a member you are welcome at all TGIF events and all events are open to every member. However, when you see "Reservations" on the Event Calendar, you must book ahead. Some events are limited in size (dinner/dances are very popular), so it's first come, first served. Please don't wait until the last minute because events fill up fast. Look over the Calendar early and decide on the events you would like to attend. You can reserve your place either online or by phone.
Who pays for what at TGIF events?
How does TGIF compare with other singles' clubs?
How can I find out more about TGIF? TGIF holds Information Evenings each month - usually every second Thursday (see Activity CALENDARS). A prospective member who attends also receives "guest member" status for one TGIF event that may be attended before joining (choose and reserve the event on the same basis as members).
When the guest decides to join, an application form is completed and the annual membership fee is paid. ![]()
